OOOOOOOOOO.....

I stopped by my sisters the other night and picked up Trenton for a few hours for play date. As
I was starting to get dinner going I came into the kitchen to find Trenton fasinated with the magnets on the fridge. He was moving them from the fridge to the dishwasher and back. It was so cute...he kept saying "OOOOO" every time he would move one. We just love this kid!

The Hunt

Catching Toads in one of Jonathan's most favorite things to do...so we go a few times every summer, right at dark and catch toads. Jonathan likes to bring them back home and put them in the pond. It is really funny watching the boys chase the toads and catch them. It has become a summer tradition.

I HEART nurse Kim...

This post is dedicated to Kim....my surgery nurse. Yesterday I said good bye to an old friend, my power port. For those who don't know what that is, it was a device that is placed deep in the tissue in my chest that gave the doctors venous access. Because of all the chemo and two bone marrow transplants, my veins were SHOT! For the past 2 years I have had to go in every other week and donate a pint of blood to be thrown away, because I have too much iron in my body...well 2 years later, all seems well, so it was time to say goodbye. It finally came out yesterday. HURRAY!
Kim was my nurse pre surgery and post surgery and she ROCKS! I am a very hard stick when it comes to IV's (thus the port) but she got the IV started the FIRST TIME!!! WHOOOHOO! That just about NEVER happens...anyway, after my surgery was pushed back 2 hours, I finally went under the knife and out it came. Once back in recovery, I was REALLY SICK! Kim was so patient with my dry heaving and nausea. And even though I was the last surgery patient of the day, it was 8pm and I am sure she was more than ready to go home, she sat by my side with Kasey and patiently waited for the nausea to subside so I could go home. So here's to KIM...Thank you for being such a great nurse!

Family Home Evening

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE this time of year!! It seems like most evenings we get thunderstorms and those are my favorite! On Monday night, as we were getting ready to start Family Home Evening, the storm hit. So instead of having our lesson, we pulled out our camp chairs, set them up in the garage and let Jonathan play in the rain. (Jonathan is already making plans to go to the University of Washington, because he loves the rain!)
We love to sit in the garage...out of the rain...and watch the lighting and listen to the thunder.

We live at the bottom of our street so all the water runs down in front of our house and the boys love to run and splash in it.

Jonathan loves every minute of the rain...anytime it starts raining, he is running for the door to play in it...good thing his mother grew up in the rain...as long as he is wearing play clothes, I say go for it!

We had so much rain in such a short amount of time that it was running off the top of the Red Mountain. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it's beautiful and we get a front row seat from our backyard.

In Loving Memory

Kasey and I went on our weekly date Saturday Night and decided on our way home to stop by Petco to get some fish food for our pond fish. While we were there, we saw these really cute pond turtles and Jonathan has wanted a turtle forever, but I would not let him have one in the house. (for those who don't know turtles carry salmonella on their skin - so MAKE SURE your kids wash their hands if they ever touch a turtle) Anyway, we surprised him with a turtle and he was SO excited. He decided to name him Squirt. Jonathan and all the neighbor boys came over and had a great time watching Squirt swim around, come up for air and even get out of the pond. Sunday afternoon after church, Jonathan was outside and noticed that Squirt had made his way over to the fence and seemed to be sun bathing, so he left him alone. (plus his mom made him wash his hand 3 times with soap and water after he touched the turtle) A few hours later when he went back out and Squirt was gone. Jonathan was heart broken. So after a heart felt prayer he went around the neighborhood asking if anyone had seen a turtle...one of the boys up the street said he had picked up the turtle, but put in back outside when his mom said it wasn't his. So tonight, after many prayers and no luck finding the turtle...we say goodbye. We hope that Squirt has found a new home (we think someone literally picked up the turtle and took it home) and that he is being well taken care of!

Cottam Family Reunion...warning...long post

This year for the Cottam Reunion, we went to Boulder Mountain over the 4th of July...what a beautiful place! Nonie and Cameron were kind enough to find the location for us. Thursday night when we arrived - we were IMMEDIATELY attacked by mosquito's the size of humming birds...they literally swarmed us the minute we got out of our car. Fortunately the family was there to greet us with bug spray. We got our tent sent up, enjoyed some dinner and visiting around the campfire. One of our favorite moments was when our Brother in law - who is now called Pyro Mark, had a little fire show for us. It was actually pretty cool...but I don't want to endorse playing with fire. Around 11 we all settled into our tents, armed with bug spray and heavy blankets. Unfortunately at about 2 am, Jonathan woke up and began vomiting - ALL OVER his sleeping bag and blankets. So here is me...2 am, half awake, a flash light in one hand, a towel in the other, FREEZING my toosh off cleaning puke, while my husband is tucked nice and warm in our bed, asking me how I am doing "over there"! Men, gotta love em! Once I got Jonathan cleaned up, the puke cleaned up and the sleeping bag and blankets out of the tent it was back to bed for me. Friday morning we all loaded up on four wheelers and headed to the lake to go fishing...it was a BEAUTIFUL lake. So peaceful and quiet. I could have stayed there forever, but my poor little guy still wasn't feeling well, and neither was I. Back to the tent for Jonathan and I to sleep off our bug. My poor sister in law Nonie came back to camp too! Poor James had been bitten by a few mosquito's and swelled right up! Check out www.cameronnoniefam.blogspot.com to see poor James. By 5 pm Friday, Kasey and I decided to call it a weekend and head home, while Nonie and Cameron also decided it was time to take James to the ER. All in all, it really was a good weekend, other a few little bugs, some vomit, and one allergic little boy! We were sad to leave early, but I was glad we did, poor Jonathan didn't feel better until the following Tuesday. One thing is for sure though...it is always an adventure with the Cottams!
